Meri is an "outsider" artist, largely self-taught via studying the work of noted abstract artists and taking painting and mixed media workshops. She began to experiment with altered digital imagery and abstract painting in the spring of 2004.
In September 2005, she mounted a one-woman show at the gallery
at Charles Wright Academy in Tacoma, Washington featuring approximately
40 pieces of work., primarily altered digital imagery prints. In September 2006, she was invited to hang another one-woman
exhibition of new work (8 paintings, 5 mixed media pieces, and five
experimental charcoal drawings) at Charles Wright Academy.
She published photographs in Platform58, in both the issue on Cities (June 2009) and the issue on Light (July 2009). In addition, one of her photographs of the Snowbound Festival at Tacoma Art Museum in 2008 was selected for the 2009 Schmap Online Travel Guide to the Puget Sound region. She currently hosts two blogs, Meri's Musings and Tacoma Photo. In addition, she is working on a series called "Seaglass" of abstract, layered photographs. You can see the first ten pieces of this series on the first page of this site.
Meri is a member of Peninsula Art League in Gig Harbor, Washington and
sometimes exhibits in their member shows. She is jury screened to show in
the categories of photography, prints, acrylics, mixed media/collage,
and fiber art. She is also proud to be a member of the Board of Trustees at the Tacoma Art Museum.
The museum focuses to a large extent on regional contemporary art,
including an impressive collection of Chihuly glass pieces and a
contemporary jewelry collection.
You may email her (meri@artfulwomangallery.com) for more information on her work. She plans to open an Etsy shop to sell her work in the near future.
