About the Artist

This page showcases examples of Meri's mixed media pieces. Each work is constructed on a substrate of 140 lb. watercolor paper or heavier board and features exotic papers, hand painted papers, found papers, and in some cases acrylic washes and applied metal leaf. The process itself is intuitive. Papers are assembled, torn, loosely placed in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement. Then she adheres the materials to the substrate using acrylic gel medium as an adhesive. Watery washes of acrylic paint may be added to unify the piece if it lacks coherency. Sometimes small touches of copper, silver, or gold leaf are added for highlights. With some pieces, Meri scans the completed composition to prepare less costly prints from the original collage. And finally, because many exotic papers and found papers have questionable light resistent attributes, the finished mixed media pieces are matted and framed under UV-resistant, archival glass.
